Cafe Style/Double Hung
Cafe style means that the shutter is shorter than the window height and finished at the top. Double Hung means that you are ordering 2 separate shutters for the same window. The top has its own set of hinges and the bottom also has their own separate hinges.

Center Stile Options
Butt style is only used for a single panel configuration. Rabbet is used most often for split panels but the window must be square or light will pass through the center. Astragal is the default stile as it can hide many out of square window problems

Divider Rail
A divider rail is used to add support to a shutter panel, any shutter over 78 inches has to have one. The customer must tell us in the order comment box where they want the divider rail from the bottom to center of the panel.

Hidden Tilt Option
Norman offers visible tilt bar in center at no charge. Hidden tilt is a built in tilt where you simply lift and lower the louvers with no visible bar. This also keeps a more open view.

Mounting Frames
Mounting frames are used at times when you have no molding to mount the shutter to. Z frames are very helpful when mounting to a dry wall trimmed window frame. If a Z frame is too much trim, then a mounting strip is a good choice. This gives you flexibility for that stubborn, out of square window. Many customers like to mount their shutter directly to the molding. L frames are for outside or inside mount. For an outside mount L frame, you will place the "L" frame at the edge of the window opening. The shutter will be approx. 3" wider than ordered shutter width from frame to frame of outside edge. For an inside mount L frame, you will deduct 1/8" to fit max frame to frame outside.

Features and Benefits

Built around the concept of modern convenience, Woodcore Plus shutters combines wood composite frames with durable ABS louvers. Wood composite materials used are harvested from well-managed forests and finished with a polypropylene coating that prevents moisture absorption and allows for easy stain removal. ABS co-polymer louvers are dimensionally stable, which resist cupping, warping and twisting.

Reinforced engineered stiles. Stile core durability reinforced with multiple layers of wood bonded together. The result is a robust support system for shutter panels.

UV inhibitor protects shutters and home décor from UV rays, prevents color fading and sun damage.

Multiple stile options are available in various sizes to accommodate different window configurations. Astragal or Rabbet stiles provide a natural light block between panels.

A wide range of frames with inserts, which keep installation screws out of sight for a clean and decorative look, match any style and preference.

Personalize shutters with special options. Choose from fixed louvers, hidden or offset tilt rods, café styles, bay and corner window shutters.



Quick and easy on-site assembly and installation with the pre-installed magnets and hinges pre-mitered frames and slotted keyholes.

Measuring:

Measuring for shutters is very critical and many of the same precautions that one would take when ordering a regular blind applies here. For the width, measure in three spots: top, middle and bottom sections of the window opening. Order the narrowest width. For the height, measure in three spots: left, center and right sections of the window. Order the shortest height.

The placement of the shutter inside or outside of the window depends on whether you have trim/molding around your window opening. If your window is just drywall with no molding you can install inside (with a 2 inch louver) utilizing any of the "Z" frames. If your window has trim around it or a sill, it is always best to call our shutter specialist for help when ordering your shutter.

I was hesitant to make such a large order thru an online store, but it turned out the be one of the most pleasant transaction I’ve ever made.
