The most popular window covering today is a cellular shade because they filter just the right amount of light to come into a room without having to use sheers.

If you have a southern exposure some sort of sun shading blind or room darkening shade is an important window covering and decorating feature. The first reason is they will block out the harmful UV rays that fade furniture and curtains alike. Shades will keep your home cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Bargain window coverings will also protect your curtains from fading in the sunlight. The only other solution to this is replacing your windows with low E glass. This works well but is far more expensive than just installing a decorative blind.

The style not just the color of your window treatments will depend on the design and theme of the rest of the room. Blinds and shades can be a big asset in portraying a theme and the color and print  of your curtains can complete the ambiance you are trying to create.

One of the more interesting formal looks is the swag and jabot. This elegant treatment features a swooping swag flanked by narrow, pleated panels called jabots. Next comes all kinds of shades from tie ups, roller, balloon (also called a pouf or cloud shade) and roman shades. These are all excellent coverings to compliment all types of blinds and window shades.
